And She Opened Her Eyes. 2016

This work is a memorial to a time when my newborn daughter was seriously ill in hospital; the feelings of shock, trauma, horror and uncertainty of what we were dealing with.

It has a cast snowcrete base with a carbon paper traced drawing of my daughter hooked up to machines.

The base supports an armature encased in a green crochet sheath with loopy stitches around the lower half and a scalloped edge around the bottom. The top is an armless doll torso with head and slightly maniacal eyes staring into space. To finish it off I placed the structure on a green crocheted doily.

Materials - Merino wool, snowcrete and plastic doll.

Size- h:38 w:15 d:15 (cms)
